Now in its fourth year, Kids Take Over Day has become a beloved tradition that brought excitement, confidence, and unforgettable memories to students across campus.

The idea was first dreamed up by Jacy Russell, the school’s dedicated PTA Vice President. What began as a creative auction item has grown into one of the most popular experiences Lake Highlands Elementary has to offer. Families eagerly bid for the chance to give their children a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity—and the impact has been incredible. Last year alone, the event raised an impressive $19,310. This year, that number soared to nearly $33,000, supporting programs that benefit the entire school community.

But beyond the fundraising success, the real magic of Kids Take Over Day was in the experience itself.

For one special day, students stepped into the roles of their favorite teachers. Classrooms transformed as kids took the lead—guiding lessons, making announcements, directing their classmates through the halls, and adding their own spark of fun to the day. It was filled with laughter, learning, and a whole lot of Wildcat pride.

Students didn’t just play the part—they rose to the occasion. Whether standing at the front of the classroom or helping organize the day’s activities, they built confidence, developed leadership skills, and saw school from a whole new perspective. Many even went home inspired, saying they wanted to become teachers one day.

Teachers and parents alike loved watching students shine in these roles. It was a powerful reminder that when given the opportunity, kids are capable of incredible things.

More than just a fun day, Kids Take Over Day was a one-of-a-kind experience that left a lasting impression. For many students, it became a core memory—one they’ll carry with them long after they leave Lake Highlands Elementary.

As the Wildcats wrapped up year four, one thing was certain: Kids Take Over Day wasn’t just an event—it was a celebration of student voice, leadership, and the vibrant spirit that makes Lake Highlands Elementary so special.

<a href="https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1B7Qyoe5B4/" data-type="link"
