On Tuesday, August 4, Richardson North Junior High hosted its second Parent Information Meeting for the campus transformation project as part of Richardson ISD’s voter-approved Bond 2025 program. Thank you to the families who attended.

During the meeting, district leaders provided updates on construction progress, campus safety measures, traffic flow, and temporary adjustments to athletics, while reaffirming Richardson ISD’s commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment and keeping families informed throughout the construction process.
Athletics
District leaders began the meeting by reviewing temporary adjustments to athletic facilities during construction. Volleyball and basketball activities will continue at Richardson North Middle School during the 2026-27 school year, while football, soccer, track and tennis will be held at Pearce High School.
Families also received information about practice locations, transportation procedures and designated drop-off and pick-up areas for student-athletes. Coaches will communicate team-specific practice schedules, locations and additional details after team selections and tryouts are finalized. All updates for student-athlete families will be shared through the mass communication tool – Parentsquare.
Construction Progress
District Facilities Services staff provided an overview of the current construction phase and highlighted work completed during Summer 2026. Families learned that construction fencing has been completed, demolition of the northwest corner of the existing building is finished, and portable classrooms and covered walkways will be ready before the start of school. Renovations to the existing building and construction of the new academic wing will continue throughout the Fall 2026 semester while students remain on campus in designated learning areas.
District leaders also shared how the temporary classroom spaces will be utilized during construction. The portable classrooms will house the library, art, culinary arts and orchestra programs, with two classrooms dedicated to each area. Families were informed that no restrooms are located within the portable classroom area. Students using the portable classrooms will access the nearest restrooms located in B Hall. For safety and accountability, students will check out a restroom access pass from the library before leaving the portable classroom area.
In addition, to maintain campus security, the gates located along the construction fencing are designated for emergency use only and will remain closed and locked during normal school operations.
District leaders also explained that campus safety drills will be adjusted as construction progresses. Emergency procedures will continue to meet all safety requirements, with evacuation routes updated each semester as construction phases change. During tornado drills, students and staff will shelter in the first available interior space in accordance with established safety procedures.
Student Safety
Student and staff safety remains the district’s highest priority throughout the project. District leaders reviewed the comprehensive safety measures in place to maintain complete separation between students, staff and construction activities, including:
- Secure construction fencing with locked gates and privacy screening.
- Required background checks and identification badges for all construction workers.
- Controlled access to all construction areas.
- Separate entrances and parking for construction personnel.
- Temporary walls separating construction areas from occupied portions of the building.
- Daily safety inspections conducted by the construction management team.
- Weekly coordination meetings between the contractor and campus leadership to plan around school activities and construction schedules.
- Clear signage directing construction and public traffic.
District leaders also reviewed emergency egress routes and student muster points to reinforce that established emergency procedures will remain in place throughout construction.
Families also received an overview of the safety features included with the temporary classroom area, including secure fencing, covered walkways, lockable classrooms, emergency phones, fire alarms, security cameras, public address connectivity and ongoing coordination with the campus School Resource Officer to ensure campus-wide safety.
Traffic and Campus Operations
Families received an overview of traffic patterns that will be in place for the 2026-27 school year, including designated areas for bus transportation, parent drop-off and pick-up, visitor parking, staff parking and student entrances. Construction traffic will remain separate from daily campus operations through designated entrances and staging areas to help minimize disruptions and maintain safe access for students, staff and visitors.
Looking Ahead
District leaders emphasized that student and staff safety will continue to guide every phase of the Richardson North Middle School transformation project. Families were encouraged to remain engaged as construction progresses, with additional parent meetings planned throughout the project. The next Parent Information Meeting is anticipated for November or December 2026.
