It’s one thing to hear about high school from a teacher, but it’s another thing entirely to hear it from those who have conquered it. Recently, a group of five incredible Pearce High School AVID seniors stopped by to visit our 8th grade AVID students, and the energy was nothing short of inspiring. The seniors shared raw, impactful stories about how AVID changed the game for them. It wasn’t just about the what, but the how-specifically how the program gave them the academic grit and organizational systems to handle the heavy lifting of high school.
These seniors are living proof that the program works, as all five of them have already secured multiple college acceptances and have big goals for their futures. They spoke about how AVID became much more than just a class, serving as a support system that helped them navigate everything from complex notes to the college application process. Their visit was a powerful way to pass the torch, showing our 8th graders exactly what is possible if they stay committed to this path as they head into high school next year.
Seeing our 8th graders listen so intently to these future versions of themselves was a great reminder that the hard work they’re doing now is paving the way for those big college acceptance letters in a few years.
