Families learned that over the summer months, demolition of the old Richardson High School (RHS) baseball field was completed. Full site mobilization and perimeter fencing were installed, and a dedicated contractor laydown yard and job trailer were established off Holly Drive.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Construction is now actively underway on the brand-new middle school facility. The existing West Middle School building, front main entrance, and east drive remain fully open and operational for teaching and learning.\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Student Safety<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Safety remains the district&#8217;s highest priority throughout construction. District staff reviewed multiple measures that have been implemented to maintain complete separation between students, staff, and construction activities. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Every construction worker on-site undergoes mandatory background checks and must display proper badges.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The construction zone is completely enclosed with heavy fencing, privacy screens, and locked gates. Only authorized Hill &amp; Wilkinson personnel have gate key access.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hill &amp; Wilkinson staff conduct daily perimeter safety checks around campus to resolve potential issues immediately.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Construction leadership meets weekly with campus administration to coordinate schedules around school events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emergency exit plan and student muster points were also reviewed to ensure families understand that emergency procedures remain in place throughout construction.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Traffic and Campus Operations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Families received an overview of traffic patterns that will be in place for the 2026-27 school year. The presentation highlighted designated areas for bus transportation, parent drop-off and pick-up, visitor parking, staff parking, and student entrances. Construction traffic will remain separated from daily campus operations to minimize disruptions and maintain safe access for students and families.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Athletics<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The adjacent RHS Track &amp; Field and Multi-Purpose Activity Center (MAC) remain fully accessible. Event parking can be accessed via Dogwood Drive and Holly Drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Temporary, clearly marked walk-paths protected by safety fencing allow students to navigate safely between academic wings, physical education zones, and athletic fields without entering active construction areas.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Looking Ahead<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">District leaders emphasized that student and staff safety will continue to guide every phase of construction. Families were encouraged to stay engaged as the project progresses, with additional parent meetings planned throughout the construction process.
