Dear Parents and Students,

Christa McAuliffe Learning Center extends a warm welcome to each of you.  We pride ourselves on providing an educational opportunity for students (grades 1st through 12th) in the Pearce, Lake Highlands, Berkner, and Richardson area schools.RISD established the Christa McAuliffe Learning Center (CMLC) to serve as the District’s disciplinary alternative education program as required by the Texas Education code.  Since the inception of CMLC, the staff has been dedicated to creating an instructional environment that encourages appropriate behavior, fosters positive socialization, and motivates academic achievement for all students.  Students are highly engaged each day and the staff is committed to helping each child reach his or her full potential.  Our goal is to motivate and challenge our students because we know they truly are our future.  We want the students at CMLC to know they are important, they can do the work, and we will not give up on them.

Parents, your involvement with your child’s education is valued and appreciated as we form a positive partnership between home and school.  With your continued support, I am confident that we will make a world of difference in the life of your child. Hopefully, you will find our website very informative; however, you are encouraged to call our office staff (469-593-6800) with any questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Carmen Morris, Principal

Associate Principal Sharonda Tims

I’m a Mississippi native and proud mother of two handsome teenage boys. My teaching career began in Jackson, Mississippi, where I spent five years teaching before relocating to Richardson, Texas, in 2007. There, I continued my passion for American Literature at Berkner High School.

In 2010, I transitioned into school administration, taking on the role of assistant principal at Richardson High School. After three years, I moved to Lake Highlands High School, where I spent five enriching years as an assistant principal and senior principal. I returned to BHS in 2017, and I was honored to serve as their Associate Principal from 2019 until June 2024.

This school year marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter as I join the CMLA/MPA family, marking my 23rd year in education. Having faced struggles during my own high school journey, I am deeply committed to showing our students that they can overcome adversity and succeed. With clear goals, meaningful skills, guidance, and persistence, I believe they can navigate the challenges of an ever-changing world. My mission is to help students understand that they have the power to be the ones who RISE UP and achieve their fullest potential.
