Extra Curricular Activities
In an effort to foster well-rounded individuals at Prairie Creek Elementary, our school offers many extracurricular and co-curricular programs. Below is a partial list of some of the activities enjoyed by students.
Each fall, PCE students are invited to demonstrate their creative and useful inventions during Invention Convention. Community judges select the top PCE inventions and these lucky winners advance to the RISD Invention Convention. PCE has had many district winners throughout the years.
Jump Rope for Heart
This event raises money for the American Heart Association. Every year, PCE students participate in a jump rope event. The money raised by PCE students helps fund research for heart attack and stroke victims.
Each year the 6th grade students who volunteer for Safety Patrol help PCE students arrive at and leave school safely. Safety Patrol members help everyone use the crosswalks and remind parents to slow their vehicles in the school zone. These volunteers arrive at school early and stay late in order to make sure everyone is safe.
Fourth, fifth and sixth graders are invited to compete in PCE's annual Spelling Bee. The Bee is held in the winter, PCE's spelling champion then proceeds to the Richardson High School Area's Spelling Bee in January.
The summer reading program is a reading incentive program sponsored by the PCE library. Each spring, students receive a reading log to help them keep track of the number of books that they read during the summer. When the kids get back from summer vacation, PCE holds a celebration to recognize and reward those students that have read over the summer.
