For Enrollment Information

Enrollment & Registration
Immediately upon moving into the district, students should register at their attendance area school by bringing the required information (see below). All the required information (see below) must be presented to complete enrollment.

Required Information
To enroll a student in the Richardson Independent School District, the following information is required:
  • Birth certificate
  • An official document (their last report card)
  • Social Security Card* (Optional. RISD uses a student’s social security number for submissions under the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS). If a parent chooses not to provide a social security number, RISD will assign a state-approved identifier.)
  • Complete immunization records (date, month and year of every
    immunization received)
  • Proof of residency (water, electric or gas bill for homeowners or apartment lease
    with the parent's name)
  • Parents/Guardian ID (driver's license, state issued ID or Passport)
  • Proof of withdrawal from your child's former school (Only if
withdrawal was during the school year.)
For complete information and documentation options for enrollment and registration, please see the RISD Student/Parent Guidebook.

Kindergarten students must be five years old on or before September 1 of the current school year and the student and either parent must be a resident of the district.

First Graders
First graders must be six years old by September 1 of the current year unless the child has completed public kindergarten in another state/country or has been receiving public first grade instruction in another state/country.

First graders who were not enrolled in the RISD must present the required information (see above) in order to enroll in the RISD.

School Finder
Not sure what school attendance area you live in? Click on the school finder to view your feeder pattern by street address.

Register Early
Every school has limited capacity at each grade. Waiting to register may result in a child not being able to attend their neighborhood school and being assigned to another school through the Overflow Office.

Out of District
The RISD does not accept students living outside the district on a tuition-paid basis.

School Times
When registering please be sure to provide your email address to receive RISD news and information via the district's e-newsletter, School Times.
