ACM celebrates Read Across America Week

Read Across America Week

Richardson ISD libraries celebrated Read Across America Week with the theme “Adventure Awaits.” The ACM library was transformed into a campground and students were invited to explore the five regions of the United States through reading. Mrs. Walker used the app Novel Effect to add music and sound effects to read alouds of Snow Flake Bentley, My Papi Has a Motorcycle, Trombone Shorty, and Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring. Each book represented a different region of the United States.

Students were invited to enter a bookmark design contest, send a postcard from the setting of their book, or read with a flashlight in camp chairs. This experience allowed students to self-direct their learning after a library lesson that integrated reading, technology, and geography. The week served as a fantastic kickoff for ACM’s Spring Break Reading Challenge! Over one hundred students participated and read for 20 minutes or more each day while on Spring Break. Way to go, Falcons!
