New Principal Greetings

Moss Haven Students, Parents, and Staff,

I am thrilled to share that I will be serving as the new principal of Moss Haven Elementary. I am humbled and honored to continue to serve all of our Mustangs in this new role, and am excited to work with all of you as we continue to build a positive, engaging environment where students find success both academically and socially.

The Lake Highlands Learning Community is near and dear to my heart. I attended Lake Highlands Junior High and Lake Highlands High School, then graduated from Texas A&M and earned my Master’s Degree at Lamar University. My oldest daughters, Macy and Layne, are graduates of Lake Highlands High School, and my youngest, Anna Reese, is beginning her senior year at LHHS this fall!

I began my career teaching private school, but quickly learned that my passion was for public education and joined RISD in 2000. I began my career in the general education classroom at White Rock Elementary,  and continued at Merriman Park and Wallace, teaching special education resource. I moved to Lake Highlands Elementary where my oldest daughter began kindergarten, serving in resource, then back to the general education classroom. I was a campus reading specialist at Northlake Elementary before joining Moss Haven as the assistant principal in 2021.

My values as a leader include aspiring to excellence and celebrating growth, building strong relationships through clear communication, and ensuring a safe learning environment for all of our students and staff, where they are confident in taking risks to help them reach their goals.

I can’t wait to start this year with you and build upon the foundation we have already laid together here at Moss Haven.

Sincerely,

Shannon Temple
