As we head into summer break, North Junior High wants to encourage all our Vikings to “Make a Splash” with a great book! Reading over the summer is the best way to keep your brain active, build your vocabulary, and ensure you’re ready to dive back into learning this fall.
The RISD Summer Reading Website is now live with everything you need to stay on track. Here is what you need to know:
- Your Choice, Your Interest: There are no mandatory book lists for the summer! All students in grades PreK-12 are encouraged to choose books, graphic novels, or articles that truly interest them.
- The 20-Minute Edge: Did you know that reading for just 20 minutes a day exposes you to 1.8 million words a year? Staying consistent over the break helps you avoid the “summer slide” and keeps your skills sharp.
- Be Ready to Share: When we return to school in August, students will have the opportunity to share and discuss their favorite summer reads with their teachers and classmates.
- Curated Lists & Challenges: If you’re looking for inspiration, the website features curated reading lists and information on the Summer Reading Challenge to keep things fun.
- Community Partners: You can also find links to programs at our local public libraries to help you find your next favorite book.
Don’t let your reading skills take a vacation! Visit the link below to explore the resources and start your summer adventure.
