Stults Road Families,
Please read this important message about changes to our school operations for the remainder of this week, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 20 through Friday, Nov. 22.
The main water line into the school has broken, and it is unlikely the school will have reliable running water for several days. While crews continue work to replace the water line, school will be open on Wednesday and for the remainder of the week, including the xPlore program. RISD and Stults Rd. staff are preparing for changes to how we will operate until the water line is replaced and we are asking for your help, understanding, and patience.
The most impactful temporary change is how and when students should be dropped off and picked up before and after school. Please note that no bus routes, times, or locations are changing, so if your student rides the bus, the temporary new arrival and pickup information does not impact you, and you can skip down to Operational Changes.
Parent drivers – please review the information below, and also on the attached map, to understand where and when students should be dropped off in the morning and picked up in the afternoon. We ask for your patience and understanding, and recommend allocating some extra time for pick up or drop off.
Please stay in your car at all times. Please do NOT park your car and walk with your student to or from the building. Because of the different temporary traffic patterns, doing so will be both dangerous and also slow down the arrival and dismissal process for everyone.
Where To Drive
- Students in grades PK, K, 2 & 4 should use the front circle drive on Stults Road (labeled A on the attached map) for morning drop off and afternoon pick up. Please enter the circle drive from the west, so you’re making a right turn into the front drive. Please do not attempt to turn left into the school drive if approaching on Stults Road from the east (for example if approaching from Greenville Ave).
- Students in grades 1, 3 & 5 should use the west side school entrance on Woodshore Drive, approaching from the south and turning right into the school (labeled B on the attached map). Approaching from the south means a recommended route of driving down the street behind Stults (Hanford Dr), and turning onto Woodshore. When leaving after drop off, turn left onto Woodshore to head back south.
What Time To Get To School
- Grades PK, K & 1 should by ready for arrival at 7:30 am and dismissal at 2:50 pm
- Grades 2-3 should by ready for arrival at 8:10 am and dismissal at 3:00 pm
- Grades 4-5 should by ready for arrival at 8:30 am and dismissal at 3:10 pm
We will have staff members and signs to help parent drivers understand where to go for pickup and drop off. Once again, please stay in your car, and please do not attempt to turn left into the front drive from Stults Rd or turn left into the side drive from Woodshore. Please only make right turns onto school property for the next few days.
Operational Changes
To accommodate for the lack of running water, RISD is making the following temporary operational changes:
- RISD staff will be continually transporting non-potable water to our restrooms so toilets can flush.
- Handwashing stations with soap and fresh water will be set up at different locations at school.
- Hand sanitizer will be available at different locations in the school.
- Bottled drinking water will be available for students and staff members.
- Meals will be prepared at a nearby RISD campus and brought to Stults for students. As always, parents are welcome to send lunch from home with your child if you choose.
- Additional RISD staff will be present at school each day to assist Stults Rd. staff.
I know this is a lot of information to process and appreciate everyone pitching in to make the next few days work well for our kids and teachers. If you have any questions, please contact me at Ron.Anthony@risd.org or call the school at 469-593-2500.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this unexpected issue so our students may continue their academic growth.
Kind Regards,
Ron Anthony
