Policies and Procedures

Intake Orientation / Enrollment

  • Parent and student must attend.
  • Intake Orientation can take up to 1.0 hr. Please arrive by 8:45 AM to complete your enrollment packet.
  • Please bring a current proof of residency.
  • Student will attend classes immediately following orientation.
  • All Students receiving a mandatory placement may request a FIE(Full Individual Evaluation) through SPED.

CMLC Mandatory Dress Code

Compliance is Mandatory without any variations.  The purpose of the dress code at CMLC is to provide a safe learning environment for all staff members and students by prohibiting any distractions in the classroom.

Student Dress Code Requirements

  • White, Blue, Grey or Black Shirt (long or short sleeve) – must be long enough to tuck in. A solid white T-shirt may be worn underneath. Shirts should not be see-through. A solid, white, black, or grey long sleeve undershirt or sweatshirt may be worn for warmth. (No jackets or sweaters in the classroom)
  • Black, Blue, Grey, Non-Athletic Joggers or Khaki Pants. No skirts or shorts
  • Black, white, or brown belt if needed. (No Sagging)
  • Athletic tennis/deck/casual shoes. NO BOOTS OR HOUSESHOES (Slippers). Closed shoes only, no open toe or heel.
  • Watches may be worn (black, brown, or white). No Smartwatches.
  • Small stud earring(s) may be worn. No necklaces, bracelets, or rings allowed.

Daily Entrance / Dismissal

  • School Hours as follows: Elementary 7:30 AM – 3 PM              Secondary 7:45 AM – 3:40 PM
  • No secondary students will be allowed in building before 7:45 AM.
  • All students must leave campus by 4:15. There is NO supervision after 4:15p.m.
  • Students refusing a search or found to have any prohibited item will be referred to administration and the School Resource Officer for further action.
  • Students must exhibit acceptable behavior before and after school on the CMLC campus.

Attendance

  • Attendance is mandatory.
  • Any student arriving 15 minutes after the start of the school day MUST be signed in by a parent or guardian. Students arriving after 8:20 AM may be placed in In-School-Suspension.
  • Students arriving after 8:20 will be counted tardy. Students arriving after 8:30 will be counted absent for 1st
  • Absent notes must be turned in within 3 days of the absence.
  • Students are still eligible for truancy court, if they are not in attendance.
  • Student dismissals from CMLC to return to the home campus are contingent upon DAYS PRESENT AT CMLC AND SERVED. No days absent (excused or unexcused) count toward dismissal and days absent have to be made up. Excessive tardiness can also affect release date.
  • After release, if the student does not return to his home campus the next day school day, they will be counted absent. These absences can and will count towards truancy.

Searches

Policy:  It is the policy of Christa McAuliffe that each student be searched every day they enter the building to prevent violation of school rules and to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

 

Procedures: Each morning, as students enter the building, they will be subject to a complete administrative search of any property and/or clothing brought into the building.

Students will:

  • Remove all jackets and property from any clothing and place them in the container provided by the campus.
  • Turn pockets inside out.
  • Students may be required to remove shoes and socks.
  • Students will proceed through the metal detector. If detector alerts, follow staff directions.
  • Walk to the staff member who will perform a sweep with a handheld metal detector.
  • If contraband is detected, student will immediately surrender all such items as directed by campus staff. Prohibited items include but are not limited to: Candy, gum, mints, snacks, cokes/drinks, pens, pencils, markers, white out, make up, lip balm(chap stick), lip gloss, combs, brushes, hats, key lanyards, binders, electronic devices, personal protection devices, cell phones(without storage), tobacco products, lighters,  Hoodies, sweaters, jackets will be hung up and stored in the commons until after school.

Any student attempting to deviate from this procedure will be subject to Disciplinary Procedures.  All opinions of Campus Administrators as to what constitutes unauthorized items are not open to discussion or debate by any student.  Any appeals must be brought to the highest ranking Campus Administrator by the student’s parent or legal guardian.

 

Students may not be in the hallways unescorted or without a pass at any time!

NO PROFANITY WILL BE ALLOWED WHILE YOU ATTEND CMLC

 

CMLC is not responsible for any prohibited items brought to school or left in the office.

Dismissal

  • Students will be escorted to the commons by their teacher at the end of the school day.
  • Elementary students will be escorted to the front door by the teacher to meet their parent.
  • All students are required to be off CMLC campus by 4:15 PM as there is no supervision available after this time.
  • It is the parent’s responsibility to make appropriate arrangements to ensure this compliance.

Transportation

  • RISD bus transportation is NOT provided for secondary students. Students may receive a DART pass upon parental request, as a privilege from CMLC.
  • In the event of a delay in scheduling bus transportation, or if a DART pass is not available, the parent is responsible for transporting the student to and from CMLC.
  • The DART bus pass privilege can be revoked by Admin. Parents will be notified regarding revocation.

Cell Phones

We provide secure cell phone storage for phones in the office. In order to use the service, students will drop off their phones in the foyer upon entering the building and retrieve them when leaving at the end of the day. This storage is only available for cell phones.

DUE TO THE AVAILABILITY OF THIS SERVICE, THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THE “NO PHONE” RULE AT SCHOOL.
