This year, Jess Harben hosted its first College Night as an AVID campus — and the turnout showed that families are invested in their students’ futures! Parents and students worked together to review real academic data, using it as a starting point to set focused, personalized goals for college and career readiness.
Throughout the evening, students and families explored a wide range of college options and learned about different university mascots. Representatives from Dallas College were on hand to answer questions, and students from both UTD and Richland shared their experiences and insights, helping families see the variety of paths available.
Transition services were available for all students with IEPs, ensuring every learner and family could access information about life after high school. One highlight was the chance for students to create their own college pennants — adding a fun, creative element that made their aspirations feel real.
Families also played “You Choose Your Future,” an interactive game where students could map out their own path to college, career, or military readiness. At the end of the night, everyone was invited to take pictures in front of a graduation display, celebrating the future they envisioned for themselves.
By the end of College Night, every family left with a clearer understanding of their options, a set of next-step goals, and a sense of excitement for the journey ahead. We are proud to be Harben Hawks 4 Life — and even more excited that your student’s future starts here!
