Jess Harben’s 6th-grade leaders recently took their leadership learning to new heights—literally! The Hawks Leadership Society visited Ninja Nation, where they focused on the five pillars of success: Community, Determination, Perseverance, Dedication, and Persistence.
Throughout the day, students faced exciting obstacle courses that challenged both their minds and bodies. They climbed, jumped, balanced, and swung their way through physical challenges—while also showing incredible teamwork and heart. The true magic happened in the way they supported one another: cheering on classmates during tough moments, celebrating every victory, and encouraging each other to keep trying until they succeeded.
What is truly magical about this experience is that it is fully funded by the Pay It Forward Project, created by the previous year’s 6th graders. Because of their hard work and generosity, this year’s students were able to participate in all activities at zero cost. In the spirit of leadership and service, our current 6th graders will continue this beautiful cycle by Paying It Forward for next year’s group of leaders.
After returning from the field trip, students reflected on their experience by creating podcasts. In these episodes, they discussed what each of the five pillars meant to them, how they showed these qualities during their Ninja Nation experience, and how they plan to use these life skills in their futures.
This field trip is just one of the many opportunities the Hawks Leadership Society provides for Jess Harben 6th graders to learn, grow, and lead. At Jess Harben, we believe in developing the whole child—supporting our students with experiences that build character, confidence, and compassion. Through programs like this, our young leaders are learning not only to lead today but to carry those lessons forward as they grow into tomorrow’s changemakers.
