Principal Sharon Newman
Dr. Sharon Newman has been the principal of Jess Harben Elementary since 2018. Dr. Newman has been a dedicated leader in education for over 31 years. She remains determined to ensure that all of her students display growth. Every year she finds joy in seeing the development of her staff and the positive effect it has on the children. Dr. Newman has had the distinguished honor of being named Administrator of the Year in RISD. Under her guidance, Jess Harben Elementary was named one of America’s Best Schools. She holds the Doctor of Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce with an emphasis in Educational Administration.
Assistant Principal Jason Henry
Hello! My name is Jason Henry, and I am so excited to be the next Assistant Principal at Jess Harben!
I have lived in Richardson for the last ten years and my wife and I have a six year-old son and three-year old daughter. Our family loves Richardson and I have enjoyed pouring into the district that we call home. I love Star Wars, enjoy cookies and milk, and am an avid fan of Dallas Stars hockey.
This will be my twelfth year in education. I have taught third grade, fifth grade, and was most recently a Culture Coach in the district. I have a passion for creating a positive classroom culture, using technology to enhance student learning, and creating engaging lessons that make learning fun. One year ago, I was honored to be named RISD’s Elementary Teacher of the Year for the Richardson Learning Community. I am passionate about building strong relationships with students, staff, and families to create an environment where all can grow and succeed. I can’t wait to meet the Jess Harben community!
