Dear Mark Twain Elementary Families,
After 30 wonderful years in education—and 25 of those with our district—I am writing to share that I will be retiring at the end of this school year.
The past two years as principal of Mark Twain Elementary have been some of the most rewarding and joyful of my career. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with open arms by a community full of heart, warmth, and unwavering support. I can truly say that I have loved every single minute at MTE. This school has been the perfect final chapter of my journey in education, and it will forever feel like home to me.
It has been an incredible honor to work alongside such a dedicated and talented staff. Their passion for students and commitment to excellence inspire me every day. And of course, the students—your amazing children—are the reason we do what we do. They have been the brightest part of every day, and I will carry their laughter, curiosity, and kindness with me always.
RISD will immediately begin the process of identifying the next principal for Mark Twain. The process will begin with the creation of a reflector committee of staff and parents to create a principal profile that will be used in the selection process. If you would like to serve on this committee, please reach out to Mr. Michael McDonald at michael.mcdonald@risd.org by Monday, May 5.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this special community. It has been my greatest privilege to serve as your principal, and I leave with a heart full of gratitude and pride for all we’ve accomplished together.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Sharon Erickson
Principal
