Ms. Jamila Thomas. Skyview Elementary. 2024-2025

Dear Skyview Staff, Families, and Community:

I am thrilled to have this opportunity to introduce myself as the new principal of Skyview Elementary School. It is with great excitement and dedication that I join this esteemed school community.

With eighteen years of experience as an educator and campus leader, I bring a wealth of knowledge and perspective gained from diverse educational settings. Having served in roles such as Teacher Coordinator, Dean of Instruction, and Assistant Principal across rural, urban, and suburban environments, including the Early College Network, I have had the privilege of witnessing the academic, social, and behavioral growth of students from Kindergarten to senior year of High School.

Notably, six of those years have been dedicated to serving in the Richardson Independent School District (RISD), where I had the honor of being the Academic Facilitator for the Berkner Learning Community, followed by four years at Springridge Elementary—an A Rated Campus as their campus Principal.

In addition to my roles within school settings, I have also contributed to the educational landscape as a STAAR rater with Pearson, further enriching my understanding of assessment and curriculum development. Furthermore, I have served as an evaluator for Praxis Core tests, assessing candidates seeking to enter teacher preparation programs for the Educational Testing Service.

As I embark on this journey at Skyview Elementary, my foremost goal is to foster a culture of academic excellence anchored in strong relationships and a commitment to student success. I firmly believe that by prioritizing meaningful connections with students, families, and staff, we can create an environment where every child feels valued and supported in their educational journey.

In the coming weeks, I eagerly anticipate engaging in conversations with all stakeholders to understand Skyview’s core beliefs and values. Together, we will chart a course for excellence that encompasses the aspirations and goals of our entire school community.

At Skyview Elementary School, we are “all about the kids” and driven by data to inform our instructional practices. My vision is to empower teachers to deliver the highest quality content tailored to the diverse needs of our students, whether through small group instruction, one-on-one support, or innovative teaching approaches. Through participation in professional learning communities and collaborative lesson planning, we will ensure that every student receives the personalized attention they deserve.

Furthermore, I am committed to maintaining a consistent focus on improving instruction and student outcomes, regardless of grade level or standardized testing requirements. Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and it is our collective responsibility to provide the support and resources necessary for their success.

As we embark on this exciting journey together, let us embrace the spirit of Learn. Excel. Soar., embodying our collective commitment to academic growth, excellence, and the limitless potential of every student at Skyview Elementary School.

I am genuinely excited to partner with each of you in this endeavor and look forward to the incredible accomplishments we will achieve together at Skyview Elementary.

Warm Regards,

Jamila Thomas
