Dear Skyview Community,
I am writing to share that I have accepted a new leadership opportunity outside of Richardson ISD and will not be returning as principal of Skyview Elementary next school year.
Although this was my first year at Skyview, it has been an honor to serve your children and walk alongside such a committed group of educators and families. As a leader in RISD for the past five years, including roles as an Academic Facilitator and campus principal, I’ve always believed in the power of community, collaboration, and the importance of creating safe, supportive environments where every child can thrive—and I’ve seen those values reflected here at Skyview.
I want to express my sincere appreciation to our students who brought life and joy to our campus each day, to our families who showed trust and support, and to our staff who work tirelessly to make Skyview a place where children feel seen, valued, and challenged to grow. Even in a year full of change, the heart of this school remained strong.
As Skyview moves forward, RISD will assemble a Principal Reflector Committee to include parents and staff to help select the next leader for this campus. Skyview parents or staff members interested in being part of this important process can contact Ms. Jennie Bates, Area Superintendent for the Lake Highlands Learning Community, at Jennie.Bates@risd.org by May 7.
Thank you again for allowing me to be part of your journey this year. I wish the entire Skyview community continued success, growth, and joy in the years ahead.
With respect and heartfelt appreciation,
Jamila Thomas
Principal, Skyview Elementary
