Forest Meadow Chargers,
We’ve completed two rounds of STAAR testing so far, and we have two more exams coming up. For some of our parents and guardians who are new to Texas, this may be a new experience. Below is some helpful information about the STAAR test and a few tips on how you can support your student to help them do their best.
April 23rd – STAAR Science – (8th Grade Only)
April 29th – STAAR Math – (Grades 6-8)
What is the STAAR Test?
STAAR stands for State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness. It’s the standardized testing program used in Texas public schools to measure how well students have learned the skills and knowledge outlined in the state curriculum (called the TEKS – Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills).
Students in grades 3 through 8 take STAAR tests in core subjects like reading, math, science, and social studies, depending on their grade level. In high school, students take End-of-Course (EOC) STAAR exams in subjects like Algebra I, English I & II, Biology, and U.S. History.
These tests help teachers and schools understand how students are progressing and where they might need more support.
Tips to Help Your Child Do Their Best on STAAR:
- Get Plenty of Rest
A good night’s sleep before the test helps your child stay focused and alert. - Eat a Healthy Breakfast
Make sure they eat a nutritious breakfast the morning of the test. This gives them energy and helps them concentrate. - Arrive on Time
Being on time (or even a few minutes early) helps reduce stress and gives your child a calm start to their day. - Encourage a Positive Attitude
Remind them that the test is just one way to show what they know and that all you expect is for them to try their best.
If you ever have questions about the STAAR test or how to support your student, don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or school counselor. We’re here to help every step of the way!
