Welcome to Bowie
Bowie Elementary is a Pre-Kindergarten-6th grade school located in Far North Dallas. Bowie teachers and staff strive to instill a love for lifelong learning and responsible citizenship for all students through a positive educational climate. Our goal is to give each child as much individual attention as possible, allowing him/her to work to full potential.
Through a strong community of parents, volunteers and school faculty, Bowie students are given many opportunities to continue their learning beyond the standard core-curricular day. Co-curricular and extracurricular activities offered at Bowie include:

Bowie History
James Bowie Elementary School opened in the fall of 1968 with Mr. Dennis Johnson serving as principal from that time until 1992. Mrs. Jan Casner was the second principal in Bowie’s history; she served as principal from 1992-2002. Bowie’s third principal was Mrs. Nicole Farrar-Myers. Ms. Staci Low, who began her Bowie leadership in 2008, retired in June 2019. Ms. Chanda Ash became Bowie’s fourth principal in the 2019-2020 school year and served until June 2025. Mrs. Leslie Ceballos became Bowie’s newest principal in July 2025.
The original building contained twelve classrooms. The present building has forty classrooms with a kindergarten wing. The building contains an office area, materials center, a library media center, music room, resource rooms for special education, speech and Pre-K classrooms, teachers’ lounge, cafeteria, gymnasium, and art lab.
In May 2001, Bowie Elementary was named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. We are very proud of our students, staff, parents and community for working together to achieve this very high honor!
Bowie Elementary was recognized as a 2024-2025 CKH National Showcase School for their exceptional implementation of Capturing Kids’ Hearts,® which focuses on building positive relationships, fosters a connected school culture, and improving student engagement and academic outcomes.
