Principal Denise Newman

I have been the principal of Mohawk Elementary since July 2020 and a passionate educator for 34 years. I obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University at South Bend and my Masters in School Administration from Lamar University.  My educational career has included teaching third and sixth grade. I also was a  campus and district level math specialist and an assistant principal prior to becoming the principal at Mohawk.  Our mission at Mohawk is to provide an inclusive educational community rich in collaborative opportunities that promote respect, responsibility and growth for all.

It has been my joy to be the Assistant Principal of Mohawk Elementary since 2022. I have been in education since 2003.  I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2003 and received my Masters in Educational Administration from Lamar University in 2011.  I have taught grades 1-4 over my years as a classroom teacher and I have also served as a Campus Math Specialist and an instructional Coach prior to coming to Mohawk.  Throughout all of these roles, my mission has always been student growth. I feel blessed to get to connect with the students, families, and the community of Mohawk Elementary.

Principal Intern Jennifer Schroeder

Jennifer Schroeder was born and raised in Prosper, Texas, in a big family, with parents who grew up just down the street from Mohawk and proud graduates of Richardson ISD schools. She earned her degree in Early Childhood-6th grade education from Dallas Baptist University and holds certifications in 4-8 grade mathematics and PE/Health. Since graduating, Jennifer has used her passion for working with children to help them grow both in and out of the classroom. Her experience includes being a nanny, substitute teaching in elementary and middle schools and – over the past 6 years – teaching Pre-Algebra and Geometry while coaching Athletics at Westwood Junior High here in RISD. Currently pursuing her Master’s in Educational Leadership from DBU, Jennifer is looking forward to beginning her Principal Residency. She is excited to grow as a leader and collaborate with students, staff and families to make this a positive and memorable school year.
