Important Dates and Information
- Registration: Aug. 11–31, 2026
- Cost: $18
- Test Date: Oct. 28, 2026
- RISD Students: Testing will take place at your high school campus.
- Homeschooled Students: Testing will take place at Richardson High School. Additional test-day information will be sent to the email address provided during registration.
Why Should I Take the PSAT/NMSQT?
The PSAT/NMSQT is an opportunity for students to practice for the SAT, identify areas for improvement and set academic goals for the future.
For juniors, the PSAT/NMSQT is also the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Students who earn qualifying scores may be recognized as Commended Students or Semifinalists and may ultimately be eligible for National Merit Scholarships.
While freshmen and sophomores are not eligible for National Merit recognition based on their scores, taking the PSAT/NMSQT earlier can provide valuable practice and help students prepare for their junior-year test.

Requesting Testing Accommodations
Students who receive testing accommodations through Section 504 or Special Education must complete the Accommodation Request Form by Aug. 31, 2026, so RISD can provide the student’s information to the College Board for consideration of possible testing accommodations.
Please note that accommodations for College Board assessments, including the PSAT/NMSQT, are determined by the College Board. RISD is required to follow College Board testing policies to ensure that student scores remain valid.
