RHS AVID Alum Featured in New AVID Center Book!

We are absolutely bursting with pride to share some incredibly exciting updates from the Richardson High School AVID program! Our legacy of student success and dedicated leadership is shining brightly in a new national publication.

A Story of Determination: RHS Graduate Mohammed Kara

One of our very own RHS AVID graduates from the Class of 2015, Mohammed Kara, has been nationally recognized and featured in the AVID Center’s inspiring new book, Not By Chance: Stories of Individual Determination.

  • A National Honor: Nominated among graduates nationwide, Mohammed’s powerful story of resilience and hard work shines brightly.
  • Path to Success: A former Dell Scholar, he attended the University of North Texas (UNT) where he went on to serve as student body president.
  • Today: Mohammed is currently pursuing his doctorate in higher education at Penn State University.

We are so proud of Mohammed for embodying the true spirit of AVID!

Celebrating Leadership: Beth Brown’s Contributions

The book also gives a well-deserved acknowledgment to RHS AVID Coordinator and teacher, Elizabeth (Beth) Brown.

Beth was instrumental in helping develop the themes of Not By Chance and sharing perspectives that resonate deeply with both students and educators.

  • AVID Staff Developer: Beth has served as an AVID Staff Developer since 2013.
  • RHS Legacy: She has been the AVID Coordinator and senior teacher at Richardson High School for an impressive 18 years, further underscoring the strong AVID legacy represented in this important work.

RHS Team Shines at National Conference

The RHS AVID team also made a significant impact at the AVID National Conference this past week!

Dr. Bill Parker and Beth Brown presented on the systems that support RHS as an AVID Demonstration School. Their session drew full rooms and earned enthusiastic feedback from both AVID staff and educators across the country.

A Huge Congratulations to the entire Richardson High School AVID department and to all who contributed to Muhammad’s story. We celebrate every AVID scholar who has walked the halls of RHS!
