The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has recognized Berkner High School with the prestigious Texas Purple Star Campus designation for its exceptional commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families. This designation is given to schools that demonstrate an extraordinary level of dedication to meeting the unique needs of students whose parents serve in the United States military.
Military-connected students often face unique challenges, including frequent relocation, changes in school curriculum, and a parent’s deployment. The Purple Star designation is awarded to schools that implement specialized supports to help these students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Berkner High School successfully met all the required criteria, which includes having a dedicated military liaison, providing professional development for staff on the needs of military students, creating a designated page on the school website with resources, and hosting an annual military recognition event.
Berkner is proud to be one of only two schools in the Richardson Independent School District (RISD) to receive this honor. This designation reflects the school’s core belief in providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all students, especially those who make great sacrifices alongside their military families.
We are incredibly proud of our students, staff, and community for earning this recognition, demonstrating Berkner’s commitment to those who serve.
