This National Magnet Month, RISD’s Math Science Technology (MST) Magnet Elementary is proud to highlight the dynamic, hands-on learning experiences that define our STEM Engineering Magnet program and inspire students from across Richardson ISD.
Across grade levels, MST students are actively designing, building, coding, and creating, using industry-relevant tools and problem-solving strategies to tackle authentic challenges. From early exploration to advanced computational thinking, students engage in meaningful learning that connects creativity with real-world application.
- Kindergarten students are exploring design and spatial reasoning through 3D printing with 3Doodlers, turning imagination into tangible creations while learning foundational engineering concepts.
- First graders are diving into LEGO Robotics, where they build and program robots to develop collaboration, sequencing, and early computational thinking skills.
- Second grade students are connecting innovation to empathy by combining 3D printing with accessibility, designing Braille models as part of a research study focused on real-world impact.
- Third and sixth grade students are beginning spring units centered on Creativity and Innovation with Emerging Technologies, constructing robots for our Magnet Showcase and transitioning into computational thinking as their projects evolve.
- Fourth and fifth graders are applying design thinking and 3D printing to solve authentic problems, using emerging technologies to prototype solutions, test ideas, and refine their designs.
MST Magnet Elementary is a Pre-K–6 STEM Engineering Magnet campus that welcomes kindergarten through sixth-grade students from across Richardson ISD. As an Apple Distinguished School, AVID Showcase School, and a district leader in STEM innovation, MST provides hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that empower students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and engineer solutions for the future.
Families interested in MST can apply for the 2026-27 school year through February 28, 2026. For eligibility and requirements and to apply visit https://web.risd.org/magnetschools/elementary-checklist/.
During National Magnet Schools Month, we celebrate the passion, creativity, and innovation happening every day at MST—and the students who are shaping tomorrow through STEM learning today.
