Farewell from Mrs. Lanier

Dear Heights Families,

After fifteen incredible years of serving this community, I’m writing to share some news that comes with a very heavy heart.

An unexpected opportunity was presented to me, one I wasn’t seeking out, and after a lot of soul-searching and long conversations with my family, I have accepted a principal position in the school district where we live. It was not an easy choice. In fact, it has been one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. But ultimately, I must do what is best for my family right now, even though my heart is still very much here.

This school has been my home for so long. I have grown here, learned here, and poured my heart into this place. I’ve had the absolute privilege of working alongside extraordinary teachers and staff, and I have been surrounded by the most supportive, caring families anyone could ask for.

Most of all, I have loved your children. Watching them grow, learn, and become the amazing people they are, which has been the most fulfilling part of my career. Their laughter, curiosity, resilience, and joy have brought me endless inspiration.

Our community is special. You welcomed me with open arms 15 years ago, and it has truly been one of the greatest honors of my life to lead this school. Please know how much I will miss all of you: the parents, the staff, and most especially, the students.

As for what comes next, RISD will begin the process of finding the right person to take on this role. I have full confidence that they will identify someone who shares our values and is committed to continuing the strong tradition of excellence, care, and connection that defines our amazing school. There is a survey opportunity to offer input for a profile that RISD will use to vet and interview principal candidates – please take a moment to offer your input before Monday, June 16.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for trusting me with your children, for partnering with me through so many changes and challenges, and for being a part of this incredible journey.

With deep gratitude,

Jenny Lanier
