Greetings Thurgood Marshall Elementary Parents, Staff and Community,
My name is Jerald Wilson, and it is with great excitement that I write this letter to introduce myself as the next proud principal of Thurgood Marshall Elementary. I am honored to join a family of enthusiastic and dedicated teachers & learners who have a demonstrated tradition of academic excellence.
The 2023-2024 school year will mark my 16th year in public education, where I have served as a teacher, athletic coach, instructional coach, assistant principal, and principal. Prior to becoming an educator, I attended Mississippi State University, where I earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mathematics while competing as a 4 year letter winner for the Bulldog Track & Field Team. I went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics & Math Teaching from the University of Texas at Arlington.
The Thurgood Marshall Elementary mission is to provide exceptional student centered education in a safe environment by providing consistency and structure while educating the whole child (social, emotional, and academic). This ensures opportunities for growth in order to create patterns of success leading to college and career readiness in our connected community. I share the same mission and passion for educating scholars beyond the classroom and the school building. I know it is necessary to equip our scholars with the tools to not only be successful in school, but to also be successful in life.
I am excited to meet our staff, students, and families. I will be hosting a Principal Meet and Greet on Thursday, May 25th from 3:30 to 4:30 in the TME Library. This will be a come and go event, so please stop by at your convenience. Extending the reach of our school into the community and actively becoming one with the community will be a hallmark of our school and my leadership.
