High School Hustle: Getting into the RHS Magnet Program

RHS eagle

For most students in RISD Spring Break was uneventful, but not for the eighth graders at Westwood Junior High. Over the break the students received their RHS magnet results. The last few weeks of school before the break were both exciting and nerve wracking for the eighth graders. But, overall the process was rewarding.

To be considered for the magnets students had to be passing certain classes or have skills that would benefit the program. Every magnet had different application processes and requirements. Some students had to send in a flipgrid, photos, or a piece of artwork while others had to be interviewed at RHS. Students felt nervous about the different interviews but the RHS students and faculty helped them feel welcome.

The eighth graders at Westwood are excited to attend high school next year and pursue their magnet programs. Their plans next year are simple; don’t get lost in the massive school, and excel in their different classes.
