Welcome to the Aikin Library!
The Aikin Library welcomes ALL! Students, staff, and community members. Our mission is simple: Students Read. We accomplish that by putting books in kids’ hands. Reading is the base of everything. If students enjoy reading, they will learn. The library is the place to learn to love reading,
“If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book.” – J.K. Rowling
All RISD students PreK-12 are encouraged to read books of interest to them during the summer. Students will share and discuss their reading when they return to school. Although there is not a specific list of titles that must be read for any grade level or class, students may obtain curated lists of reading materials on the “What Should be Read” page. As a district focused on building a culture of reading, we encourage all parents, staff, and stakeholders to join students in actively reading and discussing their reading.
Library Information Technology Educator – Leslie Ingram
I am the proud LITE of Aikin Elementary. This is my third year being a LITE and my 23rd in education. I spent those years teaching reading to 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. I have always loved books and stories. Being a librarian is the best way to spread reading to ALL of our students. I feel beyond lucky that I get to call Aikin my home.
I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and moved to the DFW area after I graduated high school. I attended the University of North Texas where I received my bachelor’s in elementary education. I continued my learning by receiving my master’s from Lamar University. I rounded out my learning by obtaining my Librarian Certification through Texas A&M Commerce. I love being at Aikin and being a mom to my three amazing children.
Please do not hesitate to reach out for anything you might need.
